When all that is done, you will have a clean coax connection to the modem.

If there is a problem with the coax cables, a Fritz!box will also have a problem of course.

I'm known at this forum for my enthusiasm for Fritz!box routers. They are constantly upgraded and improved with new firmware versions, adding new functionality (bug fixes as well of course).

You may inclined to go for the 6670 because of WiFi 7. However, the 6690 has 4 antennas instead of 2, which means that the actual maximum WiFi speed of the 6690 is almost twice that of the 6670. So I would go for the 6690.

https://fritzshop.nl/index.php?controller=products-comparison&compare_product_list=1249%7C12052

(Writing in English since tech Dutch isn't great, I hope it's ok).

I have the Ubee modem connected to fiber in my hallway cabinet, that Ziggo recently gave me to upgrade to Business Pro. I have it connected to a TP-Link Archer BE550 WiFi7 router on the other side of the wall. When it works, I get absolutely fantastic speeds (almost 1gigabit download and 100 Mbps upload). However, i can go hours without a problem then i get repeated disconnects, when I lose all internet, including hard-wired, wifi and cannot even get to local 192.168 IP addresses. Then within 90 seconds - 2 minutes, they reconnect. Then it could go 30 minutes and the same thing. I have spoken to every level of tech support at Ziggo, including router support, and we have verified every setting is correct on the router (the modem settings are hard-coded), and the modem is in Bridge mode, as desired.

Here's the issue. About 6 years ago when I moved to this apartment, I also had Ziggo cable tv, and so they gave me 2 media boxes, and in the same cabinet where the modem sits are coax cables connected via a splitter to the outside via a POA2540 (Ziggo tech did all the wiring/installation). I no longer have the cable tv, so the TV cable from the POA to the splitter is still connected (it's a metal splitter). There are also 2 "extra" ethernet cables that had been connected to the previous modem/router combo (Sagemcom) that are not connected, I think those were for the router funcationality built into the Sagemcom.

I have spent so many hours this weekend trying to troubleshoot. I am pretty confident this is a physical layer issue with the cabling either to the outside, or the result of the coax splitter, or the coax cables not being updated and perhpas even corroded or degraded over time.

Does anyone here have any similar experiences? I have a service call to Ziggo for this afternoon to check everything. It could also be a bad Ubee modem, who knows how long they've been sitting in the warehouse. One Ziggo level 2 agent said the firmware was very old so he flashed to the latest, but it didn't help.

I have been reading about the Fritz!Box modems (different models) and am wondering if i should just eliminate the Ubee equipment altogether. Would really appreciate advice/thoughts.

Not being able to obtain IP addresses for LAN devices points to a DHCP server problem on your TP-Link router. If the modem goes offline (whether or not due to a signal problem), this should not impact LAN traffic. You should inspect both the modem's and your router's event log when/after you experience the outage.

I am using a Ubee UBC1318 in bridge mode since 2021 and it has been rock solid, although I am on a regular B2C subscription (Wifi Middel).

Thank you so much, Caesar. I really appreciate it.

So, Ziggo called back and said they cancelled the tech visit because they "didn't have enough info". It is outrageous. But that's another issue that I will address later.

My router is the TP-Link Archer BE550 and it's awesome, i'd love not to have to use something else, but I think you hit the nail on the head with the coax cable. Currently, this is how my setup looks:

Outside line(s) > Metal splitter (2 cables on top). Splitter screwed on to wall (by Ziggo).

Splitter then has 1 coax cable that goes to the TV port on the POA2540.

The POA2540 Data port goes directly to the modem.

No cables have been disconnected or removed since I cancelled my cable tv subscription with Ziggo a couple of years ago, so the TV side of the POA is useless, as you correctly mentioned. Personally, I think that they should send their technician to me and have them do the disconnecting/replacing cables rather than me, since they did the original installation. They are asking me to directly connect a laptop to the ethernet port on the modem and run a 2 minute test through tracert, ipconfig and speedtest.net and send them the results. It's outrageous at this point.

In addition, the last tech I spoke to, who arranged the home tech visit told me as we were chatting that he was observing 2 packet losses a few times, however strangely enough, my connection didn't drop. Shouldn't that be proof enough? Don't they have logs?

So here are my further questions for you, if you don't mind:

If I get one of the Fritz!Box models, then it will handle everything, including NAT, IP addresses, security, etc., right? In that case is my Archer BE550 no longer necessary?

Just so I understand from a technical perspective, the splitter cable that goes from the TV port on the POA to the splitter, once removed, won't that break the data connection, since both the data and tv coax lines are connected to that line? Forgive me if that's a dumb question. I could also easily upload a pic of the setup if that'll help.

Instead of arguing with Ziggo to send me a new coax cable, can I get one myself from CoolBlue or someone? I'm willing to spend whatever it is, just to fix this.

If the problem is in the coax, then a FitzBox won't help. So this is why I've been insisting with them that they send someone with a meter to check the outside and inside lines. When he originally came to install/upgrade my basic business setup to the Pro setup, I didn't have the router so all he did was plop down the Ubee in its box, without even checking it at all for a signal. I pointed this out to the last rep and he said "oh, that's not good" but offered no solution.

Thanks so very much. I'm all ears.

Correct, bridge mode is default for Zakelijk Internet Pro. A modem in bridge mode is reachable at 192.168.100.1 for verifying DS/US signal values and the DOCSIS event log.

An IEC/F green/red cable will allow you to connect the modem directly to the AOP (main outlet). This cable can be sent free of charge by customer support or a community moderator.

Zakelijk Internet Pro requires a static WAN IP configuration on the router, I am unsure whether the FRITZ!Box Cable supports this.

Thank for the .100.1 IP, I didn't have that (it's not the address on the sticker on the Ubee). In the Event Log, I see this: "Warning: Dynamic Range Window violation"

Doesn't that point to an upstream signal problem?

Also for the total uptime, I only see the ~2 hours it's been up now since the last outage, not since I originally connected it on Saturday. Is this normal?

I feel I should not be doing this myself, that Ziggo should send someone immediately, since a) they didn't even test it the day they dropped the modem with me and b) I've done already tons of my own troubleshooting and research.

But it is what it is. As for the coax swap, I also don't want to do that myself.

A DRW violation relates to the upstream but does not necessarily indicate a problem. A SYNC timing failure may indicate a loss of downstream signal but is normal directly after a modem reboot/reset, which resets the uptime.

Could you copy the full event log as well as the current DS/US values to a text file and post this to the topic? You may delete the 'CM-MAC' etc. part from the events.

@andy957

You can pull the TV cable from the POA-2540, things like that are left to the customer, even if Ziggo set up all these things.

As @tt14111 wrote, you can get the proper cable to connect the modem directly to the AOP from Ziggo.

The Fritz!box can be configured with static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, as required by the Internet Zakelijk Pro setup.

However, you should inquire with Ziggo if they can / are willing to support the Fritz!box on this specific type of connection.

You will not need your Archer any more when you're using a Fritz!box. These are very safe and secure routers. To give you an example, if there is a new firmware version, the router will automatically install it, or warn you once a day that you have to upgrade, depending on your setting.

OK. So right now, the coax that's in the splitter "Data" port is direct connected to the back of the modem. And the outside cables are connected to the splitter. Does this sound like the problem?

Dumb question (forgive me but I haven't had to work with this before). The AOP is located where, i.e. what should I look for? Thank you.

Not at all a dumb question, the AOP ('abonnee-overnamepunt') is the main outlet which the POA-254 splitter is connected to.

Maybe I can post a pic here of the connections, you probably would be able to tell me in 2 seconds what should be done/undone. Is that ok? Unless someone here lives close to Haarlem and wants to make a house visit. hahahaha 😂😂🤣

@andy957

You can just pull the cable from the connection marked "TV" on the POA-254.

When you get the new cable from Ziggo, you can pull the other cable as well, and pull it out of the modem. Then remove the little screw that fixes the POA-254 to the AOP, and pull the POA-254 from the AOP.

Now you can connect the new cable to the AOP and the modem. It's very easy really.

In this case, you can re-use the cable between the POA-254 and ESX-02 to connect the modem directly to the AOP, no need to wait for Ziggo.
