Vincente,

First of all: when http://ipv6-test.com shows no IPv6 address
it just tells you that the system you use for the test did not get a global IPv6 address.

Maybe it should have an IPv6 address, but it was not assigned by the IPv6 Router Firmware for some (strange) reason. As such this is not a real problem. We can look into this, later on.
You write that you see that the Router has an IPv6 address. I presume that you have a ConnectBox. Am I right?

Let's determine what kind of IPv6 Firmware the ConnectBox runs.
I included 2 images, as examples.
Image 1: DS-Lite firmware; CB has only an IPv6 address
Image 2: Dual Stack firmware: CB has both an IPv4 and IPv6 address
What do you see?

Since you can setup a VPN connection to your work office, I don't think that
IPv4 Firmware will solve your problem.
As I understand the Rdp Connection to a host in the Office network over that VPN connection fails in a few seconds, but the VPN Connection does not drop.
Can you confirm this?
Do you use other facilities of your office during a VPN session, like Network disk shares?

Regards Han

Hi,

Since moving to a new house and receiving a new modem, I have not been able to Remote Desktop via VPN to my work office. I also connect to the VPN, and the Remote Desktop also connects, but after a few seconds the Remote Desktop is closed.

Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do? Or do I need a new modem?

Thanks in advance,
Vicente Canhoto

Possible solution:

Do you see a IPv6 adres under IPv6 connectivity http://ipv6-test.com ?

If there is, aks the chat to put your modem in IPv4 modus.

The chat box (to be used 24 hours a day / 365 days a year) appears at the bottom right of the screen of the page below, if someone is available, sometimes wait:
https://www.ziggo.nl/chat

I also tried making some changes in the modem settings, and I might have disabled something related to that. When I check those modem settings, I see an IPv6 address. Should I still ask to put the modem in IPv4 modus?

Hi Han,

Thank you for your help. Yes, I do have a ConnectBox, with DS-firmware, as you can see in the image attached.

Besides the Remote Desktop, I used to be able to open sites with the VPN connection that are only accessible in the office network, but now I tried it and also didn't work.

I can confirm that the VPN connection does not drop. The first time I connect to the Remote Desktop I can actually see my work desktop for a few seconds, until the Remote Desktop connection drops.

Thanks!
Vicente

Ik think it is DS-Lite.

IPv4 is shared with 20 others, so there is no IPv4 only for you and the RD stops.

Ask the chat to put your modem in IPv4 only:

The chat box (to be used 24 hours / 365 days per year) appears at the bottom right of the screen of the page below, if someone is available, sometimes wait a while: https://www.ziggo.nl/chat

Hi Vicente,
Thanks for your info. So the VPN Connection as such is not your problem.

Mostly DS-Lite on the ConnectBox gives problems with starting a VPN Connection at all.
It's beyond my imagination why the VPN Connection itself succeeds & holds, but
the use of a service through that connection fails.

I don't think that further investigation makes sense in your case.
I actually don't even know where to start to tackle the problem in an effective way.

So: step over to IPv4 Firmware, like Bert suggests.
This may solve your problem without understanding what's exactly going wrong now. Looked around a bit, but didn't find sources yet that confirm that a good DS-Lite implementation should technically not be able to perform the tasks you need.
So be it.

Please, let us know the result.

Regards, Han
